God Works In Mysterious Ways

I know it sounds cliche' but isn't true?!?? As most of you know I have been suffering from extreme migraines and neuropathy pain. As I mentioned in previous posts I am trying alternative medicine to find healing.

Well, this past week I tried hypnotherapy and have been migraine free for 7 days. I have been extremely relaxed and have found comfort as well. I am also trying yoga, meditation and exercise.

I find it amazing how God works in our lives day in and day out especially during the tough situations in life. I praise God for working in my life the way He has recently. God is so good!!!

Please pray that it continues.

I want us to discuss the following questions: How have you seen God work in Mysterious ways? How has God working in mysterious ways in your life effected your life? How have you been blessed through His working? Do we as Christians consider alternative medicine? Why or why not? How has alternative medicine helped in your life? What is your story?

What do you think?

I love it when God leads us into paths that bring unexpected relief. I have so seen this in my life.

He did this in the past--I went to all kinds of Doctors who couldn't figure the problems out. I kept praying. Then I "happened" to go to get a free massage (someone gave me as a gift)and that lady was so interested in my pain issues that she took me to see a guy who is in his 80's that does massage at a gym. He told me exactly what the problem was!! I had a physical therapist who had been treating me according to what a Doctor had told her to do. When I told her what the old guy told me, she changed her therapy and I then started getting results. Now I am pain free and back to doing most things (just can't do long runs or lift heavy ojbects).

Recently I realized I had other heath issues and that I had not prayed about them. (cholesterol issues, liver issues, inflamation issues etc). I started asking God to help me in all of these areas and WOW!!! He led me in a direction I would not have thought of (I had already tried exercise, lowfat diet etc). Somehow I came across Dr. Macdougall's website and I decided to try what he said--he said I would get results in just 2 weeks if I stuck on his oil free Vegan diet. It sounded extreem--but I was game. IT worked--it has helped all of my issues. I was tested after 3 weeks on his diet and my cholesterol dropped 50 points, my liver enzyme levels were back in the normal range and lower than they have been in years, and it also has helped my inflamation of eyes, and gums. I then read other doctors such as Dr. Esselstyn's Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease, Dr. Dean Ornish's Program for reversing heart disease, and Dr. Colin Campbell's The China Study. They all agree---and they all have been recognized for their work. So I shall be sticking to the diet.

God works and leads in weird ways when we hold things up in prayer.

Yoga is supposed to be great for stress and my hubby and I have begun doing that also--it is so good for stretching tight muscles. There are a few I can't do because they irritate my sijoint--but the rest, yes ;-)

Nannykim,
Thank you for sharing your story with us. I am also trying to change my diet. Less portions, etc. I have lost 10 lbs in 3 weeks. Feel better that way too. I am trying stretch all the muscles through yoga but some not getting the hang of yet. :-)

I don't have any experience with alternative medicines, but your question about mysterious ways in which God has worked in my life prompted me to think about something that happened when my wife and I were trying to adopt a child.

We had been on a waiting list for several months, waiting for a birthmother to choose us as the adoptive parents for her child. One day, while I was at work, my wife received a phone call from our adoption agency. A baby in Oklahoma City needed parents. The original adoptive parents had backed out after the child had been born. Now the agency was trying to get at least 4 couples who would be willing to adopt the child because they wanted to give the birthmother a choice among as many families as possible. The little black boy had been born with a rare disease similar to Down Syndrome (but much more rare), 6 fingers on each hand, 6 toes on each foot, webbed fingers and toes, a cleft palate, and perhaps a few other cosmetic problems.

My wife called me at work to let me know of the baby's availability. Of course, we were excited at the opportunity to adopt the child. I told her to call the agency and let them know that we wanted in on the opportunity to be the baby's parents.

Then, I started preparing to take off work during the first couple of weeks that we would have him. I was excited and everyone could tell.

A few days later, my wife called me again at work and let me know that we had not been chosen by the birthmother. We were crushed. I walked away from the phone with tears in my eyes and a little choked up as I let my co-workers know the bad news.

Several months later, one of my co-workers approached me to tell me about how my response to the opportunity to adopt the little boy had affected her. She said that she had never seen anyone so excited to have the chance to have a baby with so many severe problems. And she had never seen anyone so heartbroken when they had been denied the opportunity later. She told me, "I will never tell anyone ever again that they should have an abortion. I had no idea that there were people like you who would take a baby like that."

I had not intended to make any kind of statement about the value of a disabled child's life, but God used my enthusiasm and disappointment to bring someone to know how valuable a person's life is (even when he or she does not look valuable).

(Later, we were able to adopt our son who is perfectly healthy:)

because it's not mainstream it's called alternative this does not make it wrong. Because a church is not mainstream this does make it wrong - in fact the alternative may be way better.

Hey Kinney,
I was making my rounds today and read your blog for the first time in a while. I want you to know that I'm praying for you. I have lately had a thimble full of what you must be going through. I've been home bound all week and sometimes had to sit and control my breathing and meditate just to keep a grip. I'm probably dealing with something which will self correct in a few days but I won't know until I see a specialist on Wednesday. Well, enough on that. God is at work.

Shalom

Yes. Great to hear, Kinney! And great to look at some of the comments here.

I'm on a similar diet to Nannykim, through my wife, Deb. Deb is much better now, and I'm better also.

So very glad you're feeling better, brother. All praise to God! He is good.

Two mysterious ways won't leave my memory: a very weird date when I was in college and the day I knew I was in love with Angi.

I have been a migraine sufferer for years. About 2 months ago I went to see an acupuncturist. It was amazing! In about 3 weeks, my headaches were gone. I am not on any medication, which is a first for me. He had me cut caffeine out of my diet, and with that change, I have felt a lot better. About a week ago, I started having some bad lower back pain. I went to see the same acupuncturist for this too. No results yet, but I am hopeful! Hope things work out for you!

None of the posters has shown that God did anything. How would you know whether it was God or a natural phenomenon? Also, if God is good, why did he perform scores of murders and genocides in the OT, and why does he condemn nonbelievers for their opinion when it is arrived at through honest thought? Finally, if prayers work, why do they work only a tiny fraction of the time? Just asking. Maybe someone can lead me toward some sensible answers to reinforce my flagging faith. And "God works in mysterious ways" explains nothing.
