Child Beauty Pageants

The Ramsey murder case has been in the news lately. It has got me to thinking and I want you to share your oppinions and thoughts. Personally I think it is sick to see little girls dressed up like Barbie Dolls and in beauty pageants. They look to older for their age. It's just not natural.
We live in a sick society anyway why would parents take the chance of a preditor being in the crowd. Parents should be protecting their children, let their kids enjoy being kids. Why do these parents flont their little girls around like this? What do you think? Are child beauty pageants a bad thing? Why? Should they be outlawed? Are they an invitation to preditors and sicko's? What do you think. What do you think God thinks about these child beauty pageants?
Let me know your comments.

Boy that's a tough one. I can say that my kids will never be involved in something like that. It seems to me that our society is obsessed with beauty. But the definition of beauty is young, skinny, blond, tan, lots of makeup, tight skimpy clothes, and an ample bosom. Who gave us this definition? It definitely wasn't nature, because people don't naturally look like this. That is the reason that I do not want to involve my kids in something like a beauty pageant because I want them to appreciate the beauty that God gives us all.

Josh,
Thanks for your comments.
I don't have any daughters but if I did have one no way would be get involved in pageants. Society tell our kids from an early age that beauty and style is important. Every year kids at an earlier age are developing eating disorders. It is sad but it is a reality that we must be aware of as parents, ministers, youth ministers, teachers, and encourage them.
Josh, thanks for your comments.
God bless your youth ministry.

I agree with Josh. That is a tough question. While the beauty pageants can be a fun experience for little girls, I do think that too much importance has been placed on outward appearance.

Good post, Preacher.

It would be one thing if they were dressed as little girls. The problem is that many of them are dressed like little hookers. I just commented to my wife last night, when another clip of the Ramsey kid was shown on the local news, "Mothers should not dress their little girls like prostitutes to try to win a contest. They are robbed of their childhoods and much of their innocence".

Royce,

Great thoughts.
I totally agree.
In some of the pictures of Ramsey it seemed seductive. Very disturbing. I don't understand why parents would do that to a young child. Like you said, it is one thing if they are just girls.
I always appreciate your thoughts to the discussions on this blog.

God bless.

I agree with what Bill Mharr told Larry King.
"It is sick, she is dressed up like a little whore and we think it is cute. We should understand it is a child. A child Larry. The media should be focused on more important stories. It is just plain sick."

I'm too old to enter and I never looked good in heels.

No, I think it is the wrong direction. We do a series of books with our kids, especially the girls, about God's Design for Sex.

They have age appropriate books to read with the kids as they grow up. It helps give them a good understanding of the value of their body and what God gave it to them for.

I just think this puts the focus in the wrong place.

Thanks for reminding me to read these again to my children.

A question I want everyone to think about is: How do you think God feels about these pageants?

Preacherman,

Thanks for thought provoking questions. I think it is asad to watch. Invites trouble at a young age just look at Jon Bonnett.

I hate to speak for the mind of God, but I think that He's saddened by the fact that our children are growing up way too young these days.

Preacherman, just finished reading Before I Was Born from the God's Design for Sex series with my oldest daughter.

Tomorrow night is The Story of Me with our youngest, then I have one for our son.

I recommend them highly. They build a positive idea of body/mind/soul.
